Wednesday, 17 February 2010 19:15

IEC In Sports, the Stockholm based Television Rights Specialist, has announced a deal with Supersport ahead of the forthcoming the IAAF World Athletics Series, the first of many expected in Africa.

The deal gives Supersport non-exclusive Pay TV rights across Sub-Saharan Africa for all events in the Series, with rights in South Africa also being non-exclusive.

“Aligning with the premier Pay TV platform covering the continent was fundamental in ensuring top class coverage on a pan-continental basis. At the same time, our pursuit of a non-exclusive strategy ensured equal opportunities for broadcasters and the greatest possible choice for viewers,” said Jonas Persson, CEO of IEC In Sports.

This strategy enables an inclusive approach to all broadcasters across all platforms and represents a significant change from previous deals with the EBU. Further deals are therefore expected across the continent with other Pay TV and Terrestrial networks already in discussion over the rights.

Supersport  have made broadcast commitments for all events in the series, with the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha kicking off the series next Month.

Commenting on the IAAF World Athletics Series, Supersport CEO Imtiaz Patel said “We have been a long term partner of both the IAAF and IEC in Sports and are delighted to have the opportunity to continue this relationship for the next four years.

The deal is the latest in a series of recent deals concluded by IEC in Sports for the IAAF World Athletics Series.
