ITU World Triathlon Series makes a big splash with broadcasters |
|
Tuesday 10 January 2012 ITU World Triathlon Series (WTS) enjoyed a recording breaking season broadcast wise in 2011, according to a report produced by IFM on behalf of Upsolut Sports and the International Triathlon Union.
The eight races in 2011 took place in Sydney, Madrid, Kitzbuhel, Hamburg, London, Lausanne, Beijing, Yokohama achieved a cumulative TV audience of 207m, up 98m from 2010. 917 hours were broadcast in total, up 54% from last year and global coverage expanded to 33 markets. ''The new format with seven events and a Grand Final is a clear favourite with athletes, broadcasters, sponsors and fans''. said Christian Toetzke, CEO of Upsolut Sports. ''We have invested in high quality live TV production. With IEC in Sports actively promoting the international broadcast, we predict enhanced awareness going into the Olympic year.'' added Toetzke.
Significant additions to the broadcasting for the ITU World Triathlon Series in selected markets include: Australia - 87 hrs, France (new) - 16 hrs , Hong Kong - 20 hrs (new), Japan - 16 hrs, Russia - 103 hrs (new), Singapore -33 hrs (new) United Kingdom 103 hrs, USA - 81 hrs.
''The ITU World Triathlon Series is attracting major media platforms just as the sport itself goes from niche to mainstream.'' said Daniel Franck, joint CEO of IEC in Sports. ''We see growth potential in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East for the Series.'' added Franck.
The international spread of top competitors also expands the broadcast appeal since all the top stars compete including Javier Gomez (SPA), Alistair & Jonathan Brownlee (GB), Dimitry Polyansky (RUS), Lauren Vidal (FRA), Barbara Riveros Diaz (CHI) , Ai Ueda (JPN) and Andrea Hewitt (NZL).
ITU World Triathlon Series: The ITU World Triathlon Series is an innovative partnership between Upsolut Sports and the International Triathlon Union that allows the world’s top triathletes to compete head-to-head on a regular basis.
